05.12.2017-Port Louis/ The first edition of the ICT Innovative Business IDEA Competition, in line with Government’s vision of instilling a technopreneurship culture in Mauritius, was launched this morning by the Minister of Technology, Communication and Innovation, Mr Yogida Sawmynaden, during a press conference at Sicom Tower, in Ebène.

The Minister gave an overview of the competition which aims at promoting the culture of innovative entrepreneurship among young people and stimulating job creation in local communities.  The motto retained is Gather Your Team! Create the next big IDEA in ICT.

According to Mr Sawmynaden, Government is committed in fostering a culture of entrepreneurship across Mauritius and boost the creation of SMEs.  ICT, he emphasised, is one such thriving and prospective sector which has many facilities on offer so as to encourage young people develop their ideas and become entrepreneurs.

Speaking about the competition’s target group, the Minister observed that usually once University students complete their studies, they are interested in finding a job and if we are able to instil an entrepreneurial culture at University-level itself these students will be in a position to create their own enterprises.  Moreover, since the demand in the ICT sector is huge, it is necessary to create the bridge between University students and the job market, Mr Sawmynaden pointed out.  The competition will thus ensure the emergence of a new category of entrepreneurs which will enable young people to rally together and set up new enterprises and generate new jobs, he added.

The competition is organised jointly by the National Computer Board, the University of Mauritius and the State Bank of Mauritius.

It is open to all University students: Undergraduates, Graduates, Postgraduates and Researchers.  The competition will be conducted in three phases during which participants will have to:
