04.01.2018-Maseru/ REMAINS OF LATE MINISTER LAID TO REST

 Thousands of Basotho gathered at Ha-Mafura in the Quthing district to pay their last respect to the late Minister of Gender and Youth, Sports and Recreation, Mr. Kabelo Gilbert Mafura on Thursday.

 Passing the condolences on behalf of His Majesty King Letsie III at the funeral service, the Principal Chief of Mokhotlong, Chief Mathealira Seeiso said the death of Mr. Mafura is a great loss to the government as he was a hard working person who has left a legacy to be enjoyed by future generations.

 Chief Mathealira Seeiso commended Mr. Mafura's commitment in public service delivery.

 Also speaking, the Prime Minister, Dr Motsoahae Thabane said the death of Minister Mafura has deeply affected his family as he was a personal friend.

 He urged the deceased's children to be proud of their father as he was a man of high calibre.

 Dr Thabane further appealed to Basotho to join hands and maintain peace in the country for sustainable development.

 The Speaker of National Assembly, Mr. Sephiri Motanyane described the deceased as a hero, saying in his life he made two unforgettable records thus; he succeeded his father, Vakele Mafura in congress politics and was the first Mosotho man to resign in National Assembly.

 He said the government has lost an obedient servant who was committed to his work.

 The Deputy Prime Minister and Leader of the Alliance of Democrats (AD) political party, Mr. Monyane Moleleki expressed grieve over the death of Mr. Mafura, therefore pledged his continued support to Chief Thesele 'Maseribane as he is the only Minister in Quthing to strive for implementation of services such as construction clinics, roads and electricity connection.

 He furthermore pleaded to the person who will replace the deceased to continue to work with people who were working with Mr. Mafura.

 Speaking on behalf of the Mafura family Mr. Malaela Mokhele expressed their appreciation to the government for its support in making the burial of Mr. Mafura a success.The funeral service was graced by Lesotho Defence Force brass band while a church service was led by Lesotho Evangelical Church of Southern Africa (LECSA).

 The late Mr. Mafura was born on November 13, 1951 at Ha-Mafura in Quthing. He succumbed to death after short illness at Medic clinic hospital in Bloemfontein South Africa on December 24th 2017.

 Mr Mafura served as the Minister of Forestry and Land Reclamation, Minister of Gender Sports and Recreation and Lesotho's Ambassador to Italy.

 He also served as a Member of Parliament for the Sebapala Constituency No. 67, representing the Lesotho Congress for Democracy (LCD) political party and Democratic Congress (DC). In 2016, he joined the Leader of the Alliance of Democrats (AD) in the formation of the AD.

 He is survived by his Mother, two younger brothers, a sister, four daughter and a son.
