KENYA: President Uhuru mourns Interior Cabinet Secretary, Major Gen. Joseph Nkaissery.
08.07.2017-Nairobi/ Following the untimely death of Interior Cabinet Secretary, Major Gen. Joseph Nkaissery President Uhuru Kenyatta on behalf of the government of Kenya, has sent a message of condolences to the family, friends and relatives, as well as the Maa community.
Addressing the nation from State House Nairobi Saturday, the president referred to Nkaissery as a great leader and urged Kenyans to mourn in peace.
He further urged Kenyans to stay calm as they await the postmortem of the late Nkaissery to ascertain the cause of death.
While terming the incident as unfortunate, the president moved to assure Kenyans that the country’s security is top notch and that all agencies continue to execute their mandate as expected.
Meanwhile, the President has appointed Education Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Fred Matiang’i, as acting CS for Interior and Coordination of National Government following the demise of Joseph Ole Nkaissery.
The president made the announcement after chairing National Security Council meeting Saturday morning.
At the same time President Uhuru Kenyatta has cancelled the Jubilee Party rally which was set to take place in Turkana County Saturday.
The President and his deputy will instead join the family of the late Nkaissery in mourning the late Interior CS.
The two Jubilee Party leaders were scheduled to campaign in Lokitaung, Kakuma, Lodwar and Lokichar areas in Turkana County.
State House has not indicated when the President will take his campaign to Turkana following the cancellation of Saturday’s tour.
