AU, Troika Committed to Work with IGAD for Implementation of South Sudan Peace Accord

26.12.2017-Addis Ababa/ The African Union and the Norway, UK, and USA troika have expressed their commitment to cooperate with the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) on the implementation of the South Sudanese peace agreement.

 The African Union and the troika have issued press statement in connection with the signing of the agreement by all the contending parties in South Sudan.

 According to the statement sent to ENA by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the troika has stated their keenness to work with IGAD in its efforts to implement the agreement.

 They also expressed their support and appreciation for IGAD for negotiating the warring parties.

 The African Union indicated that the agreement is a step forward for South Sudan to get away from its current political situation.

 The Union has also requested stakeholders to earnestly work for the implementation of the agreement, adding that it will continue its collaboration with IGAD on the agreement.

 The troika, which expressed commitment to stand with IGAD for the implementation of the agreement, has in particular praised Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn, African Union Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat and foreign affairs ministers for the effort they exerted for the signing of the agreement.

 Cessation of hostiles, civilian protection and unhindered humanitarian access are main agendas of the agreement.
